Republican conference on the theme "Gender problem and modern Azerbaijan" has started its work at Azerbaijan University. The purpose of the conference is to maintain the issue of ensuring gender equality in center stage, to share the scientific achievements and experiences gained in this field, to analyze existing problems and to propose the ways to solve them in Azerbaijan.
Before the event, the participants laid a wreath at the bust of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the lobby of the university, and his memory was commemorated with great respect.
Rector of Azerbaijan University Saadat Aliyeva made an opening speech after playing the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Rector noted that, ensuring gender equality as an actual issue is in the spotlight of our society. The Azerbaijani woman, who contributes to the development of our society and strengthening our independence, is compared with the women of the world's developed countries for its educational and intellectual potential today. The basis of all these achievements is the factor of women's policy established by national leader Heydar Aliyev and successful continuation of this policy by President Ilham Aliyev. Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Vice President, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, is an example with her consistent activity for all Azerbaijani women not only in public-political activities but also in protecting our national-moral values and cultural heritage.
Saadat Aliyeva expressed her confidence that the discussions which will be held at the conference will contribute to the policy carried out by our state in this direction.
Sadagat Gahramanova, Deputy Chairman of State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, prof. Isaxan Valiyev, Head of the Knowledge Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Lamiya Zeynalova, adviser to Ombudsman on gender equality, prof. Fuad Mamedov, President of the Azerbaijan Cultural Association "Simurg", prof. Rena Mirzazade, Head of Department of Philosophy of Modern Politics of ANAS Philosophy Institute delivered speeches at the opening ceremony, but at the plenary session speeches of prof. Rena Ibrahimbeyova, PhD in psychology and prof. Asif Hajiyev, doctor of philological sciences were listened.
After the break, the conference will continue its work in three sections - Gender History, Gender Issues in Literature and Religion, Legal Aspects of Gender.
Representatives of relevant government agencies and non-governmental organizations, relevant institutes of ANAS and higher education institutions, as well as prominent researchers and experts in the area of ensuring gender equality are participating at the conference.
