At Azerbaijan University was held a commemorative ceremony dedicated to the memory of the national leader Heydar Aliyev. 

The national leader was remembered with a minute of silence and the state anthem was played.

In her opening speech, the rector of the university Saadat Aliyeva emphasized that the world azerbaijanis commemorate this day respectfully and remembrance ceremonies are held in every part of the world in honor of our national leader. Heydar Aliyev gained the respect of the Azerbaijani nation with his wisdom and courage and left a mark as a notable figure who achieved a phenomenal success in the history of our country. During disturbances and tough period, our nation always believed in Heydar Aliyev’s determination to make the right decision to support the interests of our state and that is what namely the national leader took inspiration from. His life and activity have always guided us and his speeches and desires and the statehood school he founded still keep its effectiveness. The political course of the national leader which was a key factor in strengthening of the international positions of our country and its economic development is now successfully continued by our president Ilham Aliyev.

The rector in her speech also noted that Heydar Aliyev used to believe in the young generation and that he paid special care and attention to science and education.

In the event, Doctor of Historical Sciences professor Gabil Aliyev, Doctor of Philosophy Gadir Safarov and master degree student Afig Nadirov touched on different points of the abundant social-political activity of the national leader. It was mentioned in all the speeches that, Heydar Aliyev has always been a genuine leader, regardless of the social-political situation, both in the Soviet period and in the period of independence.   

The ceremony was concluded with the poem “San ela bir zirvasan” of Baba Vaziroghlu.

The university management staff visited and respectfully commemorated the national leader in the Alley of Honors and laid fresh flowers at his grave. The outstanding ophtalmologist-scientist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva was also commemorated and flowers were laid on her grave.  

A wreath was laid in front of the bust of the national leader at university foyer to pay tribute to his honor.
