A republic conference “Science of philology in the context of ideology of the democratic republic” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was held at Azerbaijan University. In the conference were discussed the history and successes of philological views in the context of the democratic republic that has played an important role in the formation of the Azerbaijani statehood and culture.

The conference that involved a number of reputable scientists and young researchers of the country was opened by the rector of the university Saadat Aliyeva with a remarkable speech. Having highlighted the decree of the president of our republic on declaration of 2018 as the “Year of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic”, the rector stated that a number of different events are held in this respect in the university.

Saadat Aliyeva noted that, Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is not only the result of the historical period as a public, ideological and political fact, but the result of national-political, literary and philosophical thinking of the end of the XIX century and beginning of the XX century. That period is remembered by a number of great thinkers likes of which not any other period has seen. The reputable literary figures of that period are F.Kocharli, J.Mammadguluzada, M.A.Sabir, A.Hagverdiyev, N.Vazirov, Y.V.Chamanzaminli, M.A.Rasulzada, A.Huseynnzada, A.Aghaoghlu, M.Hadi, H.Javid, S.Huseyn, A.Javad, J.Jabbarli, U.Hajibayli who have played an indispensable role in the formation of the democratic republic and republican ideology.

The rector also emphasized that the place of the republican ideology would be discussed in culture, public consciousness and the position it takes in humanitarian thinking, and that the conference could be efficient in this respect. “Fortunately, the conference will also study the role of literature in the formation of the ideology of democratic republic”.

In the plenary sessions of the scientific conference, were heard the reports of the professor of the Azerbaijan University of Languages Fakhraddin Veysalli, professor of Baku State University Vagif Sultanli and professor of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Badirkhan Ahmadov.  The report submitted by the professor Fakhraddin Veysalli was dedicated to wide range of works implemented for alphabet and language of the period of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The professor Vagif Sultanli touched upon such issues as the name of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in the scientific literature, invitation of the Caucasus-Islamic army to Azerbaijan, liberation of Baku and social-political activity of the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The professor Badirkhan Ahmadov described in his speech the one-century history of the formula of “Turkization, Islamization and Modernization” that has played an important role in the ideology of statehood and been reflected in the colors of the Azerbaijani flag. The professor noted that Ziya Gokalp and Mammad Amin Rasulzada succeeded in specifying the social and political content of this formula relevantly in Turkey and Azerbaijan. Yet, we do not have to forget the fact that the formula has gone through different stages in the activity of dozens of thinkers and their authorship.

Upon the plenary session, the conference went on to the sections “Current situation of Azerbaijani literary language and its therotical problems” and “Problems in literary criticism and literature study”.
