Azerbaijan University held an event dedicated to November 8 – Victory Day. The guests of honor included “Karabakh” Order holder Colonel Rashad Aslanov and Patriotic War veterans Shirin Aliyev and Gismat Aliyev. Before the event, the guests, together with the University’s Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs, Yusif Gasimov, viewed an exhibition dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the Victory in Karabakh. The exhibition presents the course of the Patriotic War, each day of which is a heroic epic, in chronological order and displays 44 slides.

The ceremony continued in the University’s assembly hall with the performance of the National Anthem and a moment of silence held in memory of the martyrs.

Delivering the opening speech, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Yusif Gasimov emphasized that Azerbaijan’s Victory in Karabakh is a major geopolitical milestone. He noted that this triumph is the logical outcome of the country’s consistent economic policy pursued over many years, decisive steps in army building, the diplomatic mastery, the principled stance, military leadership of the Head of State, the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, as well as discipline, courage, loyalty, and patriotism of the Azerbaijani soldier. The unity of the Azerbaijani people, love for the Motherland, and the nation’s historical memory also played a crucial role in achieving this historic Victory. Azerbaijan’s just position and its fight based on international law remain today the main guarantee of peace and stability in the region.

In their speeches, “Karabakh” Order holder Colonel Rashad Aslanov and Patriotic War veterans Shirin Aliyev and Gismat Aliyev shared episodes from their combat paths, honored the memory of their fallen comrades who rose to the rank of martyrdom, and wished good health to all veterans. They stressed that the key to the Great Victory was love for the Motherland. During the 44-day Patriotic War, the Azerbaijani nation stood united as one, each individual contributing with their heart and effort. The Head of State both commanded the military operations and fought on the diplomatic front. Soldiers and officers showed tremendous heroism on the battlefield. Children writing letters to soldiers, pensioners donating their pensions to the front, and young people fighting in the information war all contributed to the Victory. “We achieved this Victory together; now we must preserve it, protect it, and pass the spirit of victory to future generations. Every citizen must conscientiously fulfill their duty and strive to make Azerbaijan an even stronger and more influential country. One of the ways to preserve our Victory is to never forget our martyrs, because martyrs die only when they are forgotten”, the speakers emphasized.

In conclusion, Dean of the Faculty of ICT Asif Pashayev, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science Rashad Mastaliyev, and Head of the Department of Translation and Philology Gulnar Rzayeva expressed gratitude to the guests and congratulated the participants on November 8 - Victory Day.
