Azerbaijan University launched a differentiated compensation system for academic staff

Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, Azerbaijan University has initiated the implementation of a differentiated compensation system aimed at stimulating the scientific and pedagogical activities of its academic staff. In connection with this, the Science Department and the Quality Assurance Department jointly organized an information session for faculty members.

Opening the event, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs, Dr. of Mathematical Sciences Yusif Gasimov noted that the decision was adopted at a meeting of the Academic Council. He emphasized that under the new system, salary bonuses will be differentiated based on a ranking list formed according to individual indicators of the academic staff’s research performance. The primary objective is to enhance the quality and productivity of scientific activity, strengthen the competitive environment among faculty members, and increase their professionalism and motivation.

Yusif Gasimov highlighted that the stimulation of research activities at Azerbaijan University has been ongoing since 2018. University Rector Saadat Aliyeva has issued several directives aimed at improving the organization of research activities and encouraging staff engagement in scientific work. The introduction of the differentiated compensation system marks a new stage in these efforts.

This was followed by a presentation by the Head of the Science Department, PhD in Mathematics Latifa Agamaliyeva, titled “Criteria for assessing scientific activity”, while the Head of the Quality Assurance Department, Lala Abasova, delivered a presentation on “Criteria for assessing teaching performance”. They noted that the differentiation of salaries will be carried out across several components, including research indicators, monitoring of teaching activities, and participation in professional development modules organized by the University’s Training and Teaching Centre.

The infosession continued with an open discussion following the presentations.

In conclusion, Vice-Rector Yusif Gasimov, Head of the Science Department Latifa Agamaliyeva, and Head of the Quality Assurance Department Lala Abasova answered questions from the academic staff and listened to their suggestions.
