As part of the Lessons in Morality project implemented by the Public Union for the Protection of Our National and Spiritual Values “Elin Sesi” with financial support from the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a session of the same title was held for students of Azerbaijan University.

The event was attended by the head of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, PhD in Political Science and Assoc. Prof. Elvin Talyshinski; faculty member and PhD in History Abbas Gurbanov; Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Safar Mammadov; Director of the Excellence Center at Sumgayit State University and renowned orientalist-educator Ali Rzazada; as well as University faculty members and students.

In his opening remarks, Elvin Talyshinski spoke about the concept, objectives, and expected outcomes of the project. He noted that Lessons in Morality is a socially significant initiative aimed at protecting and strengthening national, spiritual, and family values among youth, as well as raising awareness and promoting these values across Azerbaijani society.

Key speakers at the event were Ali Rzazada, Director of the Excellence Center at Sumgayit State University and a respected scholar in Oriental studies, and Abbas Gurbanov, lecturer at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Azerbaijan University. Both speakers emphasized the crucial role of national and spiritual values in shaping the younger generation.

Ali Rzazada underscored that such values serve as a moral backbone of society – not only as a heritage from the past but also as a roadmap for future generations. In the context of globalization, he stressed, spirituality has become even more vital for young people who are increasingly exposed to diverse cultural influences. To counter the negative impacts of external influences and preserve national identity, he argued, a healthy spiritual environment must first be cultivated within families and educational institutions.

Abbas Gurbanov highlighted the social and cultural foundations laid by national and spiritual values, describing morality not merely as a personal trait but as a concept deeply tied to a people’s history, identity, and future. The historian noted that Azerbaijan’s rich historical legacy includes not only political and military achievements but also profound moral and cultural values. Among these, he particularly emphasized family, patriotism, spiritual-religious worldview, and respect for science, stating that passing down these values from generation to generation is key to societal stability and development.

The event concluded with remarks from Safar Mammadov, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, who emphasized the importance of such initiatives in contributing to the spiritual development of young people.

As a token of participation, students attending the event received the book “In Search of Morality” – a collection of short stories on national and spiritual themes published by the Public Union “Elin Sesi”.

It should be noted that the core mission of the project is to promote, protect, and strengthen national, moral, and family values in society, particularly among youth, and to raise public awareness to prevent adverse social outcomes. The initiative also supports the state’s policy of prioritizing moral values in the education and upbringing of the younger generation.
