“Diplomatic Table” simulation championship of the Young Diplomats Club was concluded
The “Diplomatic Table” simulation project, organized by the Young Diplomats Club operating under the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Azerbaijan University, was held this year in the format of a championship. The final report event held in connection with the conclusion of the championship was attended by the University Rector, PhD in Philology Saadat Aliyeva; Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs, Doctor of Mathematical Sciences Yusif Gasimov; Advisor to the Rector and Director of the International Center for Master's and Doctoral Studies, PhD in History and Assoc. Prof. Nushaba Guliyeva; Head of the Department, PhD in Political Science and Assoc. Prof. Elvin Talishinsky; faculty members of the Department; academic and administrative staff of the University; participating students and their parents, as well as project experts.
The event opened with the National Anthem and a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs who gave their lives for the territorial integrity, independence, and constitutional order of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the event, the results of the championship were summarized, jury opinions were shared, winners were awarded, and all participants received certificates. According to the project’s expert panel, six students were recognized as “Star Diplomats”.
As part of the project, which aims to foster students’ analytical thinking, argumentation, political analysis, and public speaking skills, participants engaged in debates on high-profile international conflicts and diplomatic relations, including: Russia-Ukraine, France-Azerbaijan, Israel-Palestine, USA-Iran, Pakistan-India, Turkey-Greece, USA-China.
The opening remarks were delivered by the authors of the project – head of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, Elvin Talishinsky, and project moderator and expert, Rafiq Ibrahimov. They shared insights into the origins of the initiative and the objectives it pursues. Elvin Talishinsky emphasized the project’s academic value, while Rafiq Ibrahimov highlighted its contribution to the development of students’ soft skills. Then students representing the French team, Sanay Mammadova and Aliheybat Mursalov, shared their reflections and experiences from the championship.
In her address, Rector Saadat Aliyeva expressed pride in each of the 48 students who took part in the championship and voiced confidence in their potential to represent Azerbaijan internationally in the future. She underscored that such projects equip students with valuable experience and that the perseverance they demonstrate will yield personal and professional rewards in years to come. Praising the “Diplomatic Table” initiative for its educational impact, the Rector announced the winning team, representing the United States. She personally awarded medals and certificates to the winning team members, posed for commemorative photos with them, and officially declared the championship closed.
