Starting this year, the “Diplomatic Table” simulation project will be held in a championship format
The “Diplomatic Table” simulation project, organized by the Young Diplomats Club under the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Azerbaijan University, is being held in a championship format for the first time this year. The inaugural “Diplomatic Table” of the 2024/2025 academic year focuses on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, where the famous words of American diplomat Benjamin Franklin - “There never was a good war, or a bad peace” - are especially relevant.
The negotiation table centered around topics such as “Russia’s recognition of Ukraine’s sovereignty and its existence as an independent state”, “Ukraine’s permanent renunciation of NATO membership in the interest of long-term peace”, and “Signing a ceasefire agreement while maintaining the current status quo in the short term”.
Notably, the project engages University students in debates and discussions where they advocate for the positions of various world powers on complex issues, aiming to outmaneuver opposing delegations through political and diplomatic reasoning. The primary objective of the initiative is to develop students’ skills in public speaking, independent research, and argumentation. The project participants are mentored by faculty members of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, each of whom is actively involved in socio-political life of Azerbaijan.
