Event on “Tea culture around the world” held at Azerbaijan University

An event on the theme of “Tea culture around the world” was held at Azerbaijan University, organized by the Department of Foreign Languages. At the event, attended by Rector Saadat Aliyeva (PhD in Philology), Rector’s advisor Nushaba Guliyeva (PhD in History, assoc. prof.), deans, heads of departments, as well as a group of faculty members and students, the students from the Preparatory Group of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) majoring in Information Security delivered presentations in English on the tea culture traditions of various peoples of the world.

In her opening speech, Aygun Gasimova, head of the Department of Foreign Languages, noted that organizing various events with the participation of students from the University’s English preparatory groups has become a tradition in recent years. She added that this year’s event would introduce tea ceremonies and the cultural specifics of various nations. The artistic director of the event was Aysel Mekhtiyeva, the Department lecturer.

Then, the students greeted the participants in the national language while wearing traditional costumes of their chosen countries and delivered presentations in English on the tea cultures of the United Kingdom, China, Morocco, India, Japan, Russia, the United States, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Azerbaijan. Their presentations provided rich information and interesting facts about the history, types, brewing methods, and serving traditions of tea in each country. The presentations were accompanied by entertaining videos filmed during the event preparations and rehearsals. The student representing Azerbaijan performed the “Uzundere” dance and invited Rector Saadat Aliyeva and guests to a traditional Azerbaijani tea ceremony.

Following the presentations, Rector Saadat Aliyeva delivered remarks, stating that the purpose of the event was to allow preparatory group students to demonstrate their English language knowledge and skills. Noting that their performance exceeded all expectations, the rector emphasized her appreciation for both the students’ presentations and their active participation. “Today, you showcased not only your language abilities but also enriched your worldview by learning about

the clothing cultures of different nations and the philosophy of tea. I would like to thank each of you and your artistic director. I am proud of every one of you and wish you success in your studies,” she concluded.

Dean of the ICT Faculty Asif Pashayev and lecturer Aysel Mekhtiyeva also thanked the students, presented them with certificates, and expressed confidence in their future success in the ICT field.

At the end of the event, members of the Faculty Student Scientific Society presented their “AgroTech” project to the University administration for the first time. The project will represent Azerbaijan University at the upcoming international competition “Finding Innovative and Creative Solutions” (FICS) in a few days.
