The Department of Economics and Management at Azerbaijan University held a scientific seminar titled “Economic Sovereignty and the Strategy of Sustainable Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan.” The event, organized in line with the University’s action plan within the framework of the Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty, was opened by the Head of the Department, Tural Gojayev, who delivered a report highlighting the core themes of the seminar. In his remarks, Gojayev emphasized the crucial role that economic sovereignty plays in national development and noted that the seminar would contribute meaningfully to ongoing scientific discussions in this field.

Faculty members of the Department, including Assoc. Prof. Aliaga Ismayilzada, PhD in Economics, and lecturers Mahammad Mustafayev, Fadai Mardanly, Rafail Mardiyev, and Ulviyya Mehdiyeva, presented papers addressing various aspects of the overarching theme.

The seminar featured a comprehensive analysis of Azerbaijan’s economic conditions during the Soviet era, the country’s transition from stability to sustainable economic development, and the strategic reforms initiated during the independence period by National Leader Heydar Aliyev. These reforms have been further advanced by President Ilham Aliyev in the pursuit of economic independence. Key contemporary issues were also explored, including economic diversification, sustainable development policy and related measures, the efficient use of natural resources, and the impact of warfare on economic sovereignty.
