Meeting with business representatives held at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Azerbaijan University hosted a meeting to discuss the revision and modernization of master's degree programs in Computer Engineering and Cybersecurity to align with contemporary demands. Alongside Department staff, the meeting brought together specialists from the business sector. Participants included Assoc. Prof. Nushaba Guliyeva, advisor to the rector, director of the International Center for Master's and Doctoral Studies, PhD in History; Leyla Agamalieva, head of the Academic Department; Rashad Mastaliyev, head of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and a group of academic staff of the Department; and from the business sector: Anar Niftali, Chief Software Engineer at R.I.S.K. Scientific-Production Company; Elnur Sadygov, Technical Lead for Corporate and SME Segments at the International Bank of Azerbaijan; Arzu Shamiyeva, Chief Data Engineer at PASHA Bank; Ilyas Agakishiyev, IT Specialist at the Central Bank of Azerbaijan; and Mehran Mehtiyar, Systems Administrator at MasterCard and Project Manager at Cybernetics.
Opening the meeting, Nushaba Guliyeva emphasized that this year the University plans to update its master's programs. The updated curricula are expected to meet international standards, address labor market demands, and be student-centered. The Ministry of Science and Education has engaged all higher education institutions in this process, forming working groups at each university, including Azerbaijan University. The programs will be developed through university-industry collaboration involving academic staff, business representatives, and students.
Following this, head of the Academic Department Leyla Agamalieva and head of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science Rashad Mastaliyev highlighted key aspects of program improvement. They stressed the importance of ensuring that the programs meet employer expectations, and therefore, active participation from employers in the development process is essential.
Business sector representatives - Anar Niftali, Elnur Sadygov, Arzu Shamiyeva, Ilyas Agakishiyev, and Mehran Mehtiyar - shared their suggestions and insights.
