Nasimi District Police Department held an awareness-raising event at Azerbaijan University
The Nasimi District Police Department conducted an awareness-raising event for the faculty and students of Azerbaijan University. During the event, it was emphasized that drug addiction, which primarily affects adolescents and young people, has become one of the most serious global challenges, and that combating it is increasingly urgent. It was noted that the key preventive mechanisms in the fight against drug addiction and illicit drug trafficking include the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and the strengthening of awareness-raising and educational activities.
Opening the event with a welcoming address, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs of Azerbaijan University, Yusif Gasimov, stressed that the spread of harmful habits among adolescents and young people has become a serious social problem and poses a significant threat to society. The Vice-Rector noted that the fight against drugs, described as a scourge of humanity, must be continuous and systematic. He underlined that this struggle is not only the responsibility of law enforcement agencies, but of society as a whole, and highlighted the particular importance of cooperation between law enforcement bodies and educational institutions.
Following this, the head of the Nasimi District Police Department, Police Colonel Vugar Agayev, delivered a speech in which he spoke about the dangers posed by illicit drug trafficking, the severe consequences of drug addiction, and the preventive measures being implemented in this field, including operational and investigative activities. He also presented recent statistical data on drug addiction worldwide and in Azerbaijan, including the Nasimi district of Baku. The Police Chief addressed the legal liability established by legislation for drug use, highlighted the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and emphasized the importance of educational and awareness-raising measures.
In his address, Police Colonel Vugar Aghayev also informed students about cybercrime and methods of combating cyber theft, and stressed the importance of strengthening civic responsibility in order to prevent and eliminate negative social phenomena.
The event concluded with a Q&A session and the screening of a video highlighting the consequences of drug use.
It should be noted that this awareness-raising event was held within the framework of the implementation of the “State Program for 2025–2030 on Combating illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, and Drug addiction”, approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated September 17, 2025.
