The SSS held an event on “The drying Caspian Sea: a regional threat and the power of the human factor”
The event titled “The drying Caspian Sea: a regional threat and the power of the human factor” was organized by the Student Scientific Society (SSS) of the Faculty of Business and Economics at Azerbaijan University. It began with the screening of a video highlighting the causes and consequences of the drying of the Caspian Sea.
The Dean of the Faculty, Tural Gojayev, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the relevance of the topic and the importance of protecting the Caspian Sea.
This was followed by presentations delivered by SSS Chair Aytan Aslanova, Deputy Chair Nazrin Mammadzada, and students Aygul Farhadzada and Narmin Abdullayeva that addressed the causes of the drying of the Caspian Sea, its impact on Azerbaijan’s economy and regional relations, the necessity of environmental cooperation, and related issues.
Then, the guest speaker of the event, Anar Mehdiyev, Senior Compliance and Carbon adviser at BP, drew attention to challenges related to the drying of the Caspian Sea, the decline in fish stocks, and the importance of water flow through the Volga River. He also spoke about the impact of global climate change and water depletion on the marine sector, including fleet operations. At the conclusion of his speech, Anar Mehdiyev highly commended the students’ presentations and shared his professional insights.
In conclusion, faculty members Amirkhan Pashayev, Fadai Mardanli, and Chingiz Mammadov delivered remarks, presenting their views on the limited nature of the country’s water resources and the partial improvement of the overall situation through the restoration of water resources in the liberated territories.
The event concluded with a discussion of the students’ presentations.
