A delegation from the Department of Political and Social Sciences held meetings at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan

A delegation from the Department of Political and Social Sciences of Azerbaijan University held a series of meetings at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS) to discuss the content of educational programmes in History (Bachelor’s and Master’s levels) as well as Museum and Archival Studies and Monument Preservation (Bachelor’s level).

In this context, head of the Department, Dr. of Political Sciences and assoc. prof. Elvin Talyshinski, Dr. of Historical Sciences and prof. Gabil Aliyev, and Dr. of Historical Sciences and assoc. prof. Bahman Karimov visited the Institute of History and Ethnology named after A.A.Bakikhanov, the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, and the Bulbul Memorial Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS).

At the meeting held at the Institute of History and Ethnology named after A.A.Bakikhanov, the Institute Director, prof. Karim Shukurov, emphasized the importance of adapting humanities disciplines in higher education, particularly History, to the requirements of the labor market. He noted that historians play a vital role not only in the museum and archival sectors but also in shaping the historical memory of society. This approach, he stressed, should form the basis of educational programmes. Other Institute leaders also shared their views on the existing educational programmes and offered specific recommendations.

At a meeting held at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, the academic secretary, assoc. prof. Ellada Bakirova noted that the inclusion of research methods and field experience in specialization programs plays an important role in the comprehensive formation of young specialists.

The delegation of the Department then exchanged views with Deputy Director of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, assoc. prof. Farhad Jabbarov and director of Bulbul Memorial Museum Fargana Jabbarova. The museum staff familiarized themselves with educational programs and curricula and expressed recommendations on the training of young specialists and training of professional personnel. According to them, effective cooperation between the University and museums will have a positive impact on both the educational process and the development of the field of museum studies.

At the end of the meetings, it was agreed to systematize the proposals and recommendations expressed and take them into account in the educational programs to be updated in the future.

It should be noted that the main purpose of the meetings was to adapt educational programs to the requirements of the modern labor market, to create an educational environment that provides students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills, as well as to develop mutual cooperation between the University and research/cultural institutions.
