The Student Scientific Society of Azerbaijan University held a national poetry competition titled “You in Poetry” with the aim of encouraging literary and artistic creativity among young people, as well as preserving and promoting the traditions of national poetry. A total of 31 students from 8 higher education institutions operating in the country participated in the main stage of the competition. The participants recited their original poems before the jury.

The jury panel included representatives of contemporary Azerbaijani poetry: Taleh Mansur, Intigam Yashar, Nail Zeyniyev, as well as Asif Hajiyev, professor at the Department of Translation and Philology of Azerbaijan University, and Huseyn Huseynli, a lecturer of the same Department. The participants’ poems and performances were evaluated by jury based on such criteria as artistic merit, linguistic and stylistic features, relevance to the theme, and presentation skills.

Following lengthy and intense deliberations, the jury announced the winners. According to the jury’s decision, first place was awarded to Mustafa Maharramov, a second-year student at the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy majoring in Maritime Navigation, for his poem “My Word Rebellion”, while the second place went to Abdulgadir Latifov, a fourth-year student at Azerbaijan University majoring in Museum and Archival Studies and Monument Preservation, for his poem “I Am Leaving”. Third place was awarded to Ilaha Karimova, a third-year student at Azerbaijan University majoring in Philology (English Language and Literature), for her poem “Misfortune”

The winners were awarded certificates.

It should be noted that students from Azerbaijan University, Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Azerbaijan State University of Architecture and Art, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Baku State University, Baku Engineering University and Western Caspian University took part in the competition. The competition was organized to identify talented young people in the field of poetry, reveal and stimulate their creative potential, and support the personal development and self-expression skills of youth.
