Meeting held to analyze the curriculum content of Finance and Accounting programs
A meeting was held at Azerbaijan University, initiated by the Faculty of Business and Economics and organized by the Department of Finance and Accounting, with the aim of analyzing the curriculum content of the academic programs in Finance and Accounting.
The event brought together seasoned professionals from various sectors, including Radil Fatullayev, President of the Economic Research and Training Center; Vasif Aliyev, Director of Business House Company; Hikmat Khalilov, an independent accountant; Lala Abbasova, head of the Quality Assurance Department at Azerbaijan University; Nahid Almasov, deputy dean of the Faculty; Nariman Boyukkishi, head of the Finance and Accounting Department; and Vafa Azizova, lecturer at the Department of Finance and Accounting. Participants engaged in a productive exchange of views regarding the structure of the academic programs, the content of subject modules, and their relevance to real-world industry demands.
The meeting also featured suggestions aimed at modernizing and enhancing the curriculum in alignment with current and future market needs, as well as strengthening the development of practical skills and professional competencies. These suggestions were based on a pre-prepared self-assessment report and feedback from the labor market.
During the discussions, participants addressed key topics such as the integration of modern financial technologies into the learning process, the incorporation of international financial and accounting standards into curricula, and the teaching of taxation and fiscal policy. Emphasis was placed on the importance of developing analytical and strategic thinking, digital and legal literacy, and professional ethics, the main principles to take into account when updating the curriculum, experience-based learning opportunities and mechanisms for the development of mutual cooperation between higher education institutions and the business world were widely discussed.
As a result of the meeting, it was decided to develop an action plan to systematize the proposals made and include them in undergraduate and graduate programs in Finance and Accounting, as well as create opportunities for deeper and more effective cooperation in this field.
