An event dedicated to the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held at Azerbaijan University. Prior to the event, the Uuniversity staff visited the Alley of Honor and the grave of Heydar Aliyev. Floral tributes were laid at the grave of the National Leader, and his memory was respectfully honored.

The memorial event, held in the University’s academic building, was devoted to the exceptional historical merits of National Leader Heydar Aliyev before the Azerbaijani state and people. Particular emphasis was placed on his strategic decisions that strengthened Azerbaijan’s independence, his historical legacy that shaped the country’s path of national development, and his continued attention to the advancement of Azerbaijani science and education.

The event opened with a welcoming address by Yusif Gasimov, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs at Azerbaijan University. The Vice-Rector noted that Heydar Aliyev left an indelible mark on the history of Azerbaijani statehood and played a decisive role in the fate of the country as a great statesman, strategist, and patriot. His legacy is clearly reflected on every page of Azerbaijan’s history over the past 30 years. The tangible results of the development strategy that the National Leader carefully and systematically built from the mid-1990s are already evident today. It is precisely thanks to this strategic course that the Azerbaijani people restored their territorial integrity, ensured full sovereignty, and today proudly stand behind their independent state, flag, and national anthem.

Following the opening remarks, presentations were heard by Adalat Gasimov, head of the “Aliyev Studies” department of the Bakikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of ANAS, Dr. of Historical Sciences, on “Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the Development of Science” and Gabil Aliyev, Prof. of the Department of Political and Social Sciences of Azerbaijan University, on “Measures Taken by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev to Strengthen Azerbaijani Statehood”. The presentations comprehensively examined Heydar Aliyev’s efforts to reinforce Azerbaijani statehood, lay strong foundations for independence, and implement reforms in the fields of science and education from various perspectives. Special emphasis was placed on the National Leader’s consistent attention to strengthening scientific potential, modernizing research institutions, and supporting the work of scholars.

The commemorative event, organized by the Faculty of Business and Economics, concluded with student presentations by Aytan Aslanova and Nazrin Mammadzada on the topic “Economic reforms of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev”.
