The inaugural meeting of the Young Translators Club, established under the Department of Translation and Philology at Azerbaijan University, has taken place. The event was held in the University library and brought together Head of the Department of Translation and Philology, PhD in Philology Gulnar Rzayeva, department lecturers including assoc. prof. Fazila Zakirova and senior lecturer, PhD in Philology Heydar Guliyev, along with a group of students specializing in Translation (English language) across various academic years.

The session was opened by Gulnar Rzayeva, who outlined the goals and significance of the Club. She emphasized the vital role of translation in today’s globalized world and introduced students to contemporary approaches and methodologies essential for the professional development of translators.

Assoc. prof. Fazila Zakirova then delivered a talk focusing on the intricacies of literary translation and highlighted the delicate nuances of translation language, the importance of preserving the author's style, and shared valuable practical advice with the students.

Following her, Heydar Guliyev, senior lecturer of the Department, spoke about translation as a cultural and linguistic bridge and extended his best wishes for the Club’s future endeavors.

As part of the session, students were introduced to Somerset Maugham’s work “Flotsam and Jetsam”. Selected passages from the text were distributed among the students, who were assigned a literary translation task. In subsequent meetings, they will present and discuss their translations, collaboratively working on adapting the text into Azerbaijani.

It is worth noting that the club was created with the aim of fostering professional competencies among young translators, developing literary translation skills, and providing students with hands-on experience in the field.
