A musical, literary, and artistic evening titled “My Voice in the World” was held at Azerbaijan University to celebrate the 190th anniversary of the prominent figure of Azerbaijani literature, great poet, educator, and public figure Seyid Azim Shirvani. During the event, it was highlighted that through his creative work, Seyid Azim Shirvani left an indelible mark on the history of Azerbaijani literature, with students presenting poetic excerpts from his rich artistic legacy.

Opening the event, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Safar Mammadov, emphasized the genre diversity of Seyid Azim Shirvani’s work and spoke about the innovations he introduced to Azerbaijani literature. In his speech, the Dean also noted that Shirvani secured his place in the history of the country’s pedagogical thought by establishing a new methodological school in his native language to implement his educational ideas.

Following the opening remarks, the program continued with a musical and artistic composition, showcasing examples of the poet’s masterpieces that encourages people to appreciate the beauty of life, celebrates spiritual values, promotes the acquisition of knowledge and humanistic ideals, comments on pressing issues of his era, and his ghazals were performed.

Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Yusif Gasimov, Head of the Department of Translation and Philology Gulnar Rzayeva, the Department lecturers Ulviyya Aliyeva, and artistic director of the composition Solmaz Suleymanova emphasized the importance of preserving Seyid Azim Shirvani’s multifaceted legacy and the need for an in-depth study of his work in light of contemporary requirements. They also acknowledged and thanked the students who participated in the literary and artistic presentation.

It is noteworthy that the event was organized on the initiative of the Department of Translation and Philology, in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, “On the celebration of the 190th anniversary of Seyid Azim Shirvani”.
