The team from the Faculty of ICT at Azerbaijan University, consisting of students Nihat Aliyev, Ulvi Sadigzada, and Jasur Ismayilov, has qualified for the regional stage of the “50th Interuniversity International Collegiate Programming Contest” (ICPC) in Azerbaijan. The team, led by the Dean of the Faculty Asif Pashayev and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science lecturer Ali Gurbanov, was awarded a 3rd-degree diploma based on their performance in the qualification round.
The qualification round, organized by the Azerbaijani ICPC community, Azerbaijan Technical University, and ADA University in partnership with the Innovations and Digital Development Agency, featured 157 teams from 22 higher education institutions in Azerbaijan. Teams were tasked with solving 14 algorithmic problems within 5 hours using programming languages C, Java, or Python and testing their solutions in an automated evaluation system.
The regional stage of the “50th Interuniversity International Collegiate Programming Contest” in Azerbaijan will be held on November 15, 2025, at Azerbaijan Technical University, with 63 teams participating. Teams that successfully complete the regional stage will qualify for the semifinal stage of the “50th Interuniversity International Programming Contest” and the Southen Caucasus Open Championship (in team and individual categories), which will take place from December 15 to 17, 2025, in Tbilisi, Georgia.
It is noteworthy that the ICPC, aimed at developing students’ programming skills, algorithmic thinking, and teamwork, originated in the 1970s in the USA and has been held internationally since 1977. The contest final, serving as a global bridge between universities and industry, was first held in Baku in the summer of 2025.
