Abbas Gurbanov, a lecturer at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Azerbaijan University and PhD in Historical Sciences, participated in the 4th International Family Symposium titled “Family and Population in the Defense of the Homeland”, held in Turkiye. The symposium was organized in collaboration with the Istanbul Governorate, the National Defense University, and the Family Foundation.
At the international event, Abbas Gurbanov presented a scientific paper titled “The Crisis of Values and Prospects for Spiritual Revival in the Azerbaijani Family”. The report provided a detailed analysis of the moral and social challenges facing the institution of the family in the modern era, the importance of safeguarding national and spiritual values, the impact of globalization on family dynamics, the role of the family in nurturing the younger generation, and the key directions for spiritual renewal.
The presentation emphasized that the family is not merely a social institution, but one of the core pillars of national identity, spiritual values, and social stability. Preserving the Azerbaijani family model, transmitting national and spiritual heritage to future generations, and reinforcing healthy family values hold particular significance for the sustainable development of society.
It was highlighted that contemporary information flows, rapid social transformations, and the spread of individualistic lifestyles give rise to a certain crisis of values within family relations. In this context, strengthening the institution of the family, enhancing moral education, and upbringing youth on the basis of national and moral values emerge as top priorities.
The presentation was received with great interest by participants, followed by a broad exchange of views on the topic.
It should be noted that across 14 breakout sessions at the symposium held at the National Defense University of Turkiye, 49 papers from 6 countries were presented. During the international event, it was underscored that declining population growth rates represent not only a social challenge, but a direct national security concern.
