An event dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the April Battles was held at Azerbaijan University
The event, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the April Battles, was jointly organized by the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences and the Student Youth Organization (SYO) at Azerbaijan University. The event began with the performance of the National Anthem, followed by a minute of silence in honor of the fallen martyrs.
Among the speakers were Assoc. Prof. Elvin Talyshinski, Head of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences; Lala Babayeva, senior lecturer at the Department of Social Work Organization; Huseyn Rustamli, Chairman of the Student Youth Organization; and Seyfaddin Gurbanli, father of university graduate and April martyr Fakhraddin Gurbanli.
The speakers emphasized that the April Battles became a turning point in the history of Azerbaijan and marked the beginning of the path toward the historic Victory achieved during the 2020 Patriotic War. It was noted that these battles demonstrated to the world the high combat capability of the Azerbaijani Army and the unwavering determination of the Azerbaijani people. The four-day war once again proved that the Azerbaijani people would never accept occupation and would continue their determined struggle for the liberation of their lands. The speakers also stressed that preserving the memory of the homeland sons who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, passing on their life stories to future generations, protecting their ideals, and supporting the families and children they entrusted to society is a moral duty for all of us. They are not only the children of one family, but of the entire Azerbaijani nation.
During the event, a video prepared by the SYO and dedicated to April martyr Fakhraddin Gurbanli was also presented. In the video, members of the martyr’s family shared their memories of him.
On the eve of the event, the SYO members and students receiving the Fakhraddin Gurbanli scholarship visited the martyr’s family and grave. They laid carnations at his grave and honored his memory.
It should be noted that Fakhraddin Gurbanli was a 2015 graduate of Azerbaijan University with a degree in Social Work. He was killed in the early days of April 2016 while preventing a provocation by Armenian military units in the Tartar direction of the line of contact. He was posthumously awarded the 3rd degree medal “For Merit in Military Service” and the medal “For the Motherland”.
