June 15 – National Salvation Day commemorated at Azerbaijan University
An event dedicated to June 15 - National Salvation Day was held at Azerbaijan University. The event commenced with the performance of the National Anthem, followed by a minute of silence observed in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
The event was opened by Yusif Gasimov, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs at the University. The Vice-Rector emphasized that National Salvation Day represents a decisive milestone in the history of modern Azerbaijan in terms of preserving statehood and defining the path for the future development of the nation.
Assoc. Prof. Bahman Karimov, Lecturer at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, PhD in History, then delivered a presentation. Bahman Karimov noted that in June 1993, a profound political crisis, a power vacuum, the threat of civil conflict, and escalating separatist tendencies severely threatened the very existence of the Azerbaijani state. It was under these complex circumstances that Heydar Aliyev, returning to power at the insistence of the people, successfully restored stability in the country through his strong political will, extensive statecraft experience, and visionary leadership. Bahman Karimov highlighted that under Heydar Aliyev’s leadership, the threat of Azerbaijan’s collapse was averted, state institutions were strengthened, and reliable political and legal foundations were established to safeguard independence.
The presentation noted that National Salvation Day stands as a symbol of protecting the Azerbaijani people’s ideals of freedom and independence, ensuring national unity, and perpetuating traditions of statehood. For this reason, National Salvation Day is considered a historic turning point that played a vital role not only in the nation’s political history, but also in shaping modern Azerbaijani statehood.
The event concluded with an artistic performance by students and a video presentation dedicated to National Salvation Day.
