Azerbaijan University staff project won the grant competition
The project entitled “Research and Digital Archiving of the Culture, Language, and Theatre Heritage of Ahiska Turks”, developed by the faculty members of the Department of Translation and Philology of Azerbaijan University, has won the 2026 Scientific Projects Competition announced by the Turkic Academy. The aim of the project is the scholarly research, systematization, and preservation of the linguistic, cultural, and theatrical heritage of the Ahiska Turks through the creation of a digital archive. This initiative is of great importance for transmitting the rich cultural heritage of the Ahiska Turks to future generations, incorporating it into academic discourse, and ensuring its accessibility to international researchers.
The project is led by Asif Hajiyev, Professor of the Department of Translation and Philology at Azerbaijan University and Dr. of Philology, while the project team members include: Minara Aliyeva Cinar, a scholar of Ahiska origin, Professor at Uludağ University (Bursa, Türkiye), specialist in the Ahiska turkish language and folklore, and editor of the International Journal of Ahiska Studies; Nizami Mammadov, turkologist and professor at Baku Slavic University; Assoc. Prof. Safar Mammadov, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Azerbaijan University; Gulnar Rzayeva, Head of the Department of Translation and Philology, PhD in Philology.
It should be noted that the Turkic Academy, as an international scientific organization operating within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States, makes a significant contribution to strengthening scientific integration across the Turkic world, implementing joint research initiatives, and preserving cultural heritage.
