World Social Work Day was marked at Azerbaijan University through a series of events. The first event, held with the participation of representatives of the Social Services Agency, was dedicated to the topic “Social Work - Social Welfare”. The second event was organized by the “Sosfera” Social Development Club operating under the Department of Social Work Organization.

The event titled “Social Work - Social Welfare”, attended by first-year students majoring in Social Work, was opened by Laman Bayramli, the leading specialist of the Department of Organization of Mobile and Semi-Stationary Social Services of the Agency. Speaking about the history and significance of this Day, the guest noted that the International Federation of Social Workers declared the third Wednesday of March each year as World Social Work Day in 1983. The main purpose of marking this Day is to emphasize the contribution of social workers to the development of society. World Social Work Day, which is annually dedicated to one of the themes on the global agenda, this year is observed under the slogan “Co-Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society”. The word “Harambee” in Swahili, the national language of the Republic of Kenya, means “All pull together” and “All work together”.

Then Musa Amrahov, senior specialist of the Department, spoke about the activities of the Agency and the practical aspects of the social work profession. He explained the activities of the Department for the Organization of Mobile and Semi-Stationary Social Services using real-life examples. In his speech, Musa Amrahov emphasized that the social work profession is gaining increasing importance against the backdrop of ongoing global developments.

The event organized by the “Sosfera” Club began with a staged social case prepared by students majoring in Social Work. The performance demonstrated existing social problems in society, the challenges faced by vulnerable population groups, and the role of social workers in addressing them.

Following the performance, Nigar Shahhuseynbayova, Head of the Department of Social Work Organization, gave the floor to Department lecturer and founder of the “Sosfera” Club Aykhan Shahbazsoy, Club chairperson Jansu Nazarova, and social workers and trainers Jasur Madatzada and Emin Mammadov. Nigar Shahhuseynbayova spoke about the role of social workers in ensuring societal well-being, while Aykhan Shahbazsoy

highlighted the benefits of social projects for society. Jansu Nazarova emphasized the importance of the positive changes that social workers bring to people’s lives.

Jasur Madatzada commented on the presented case, noting that it serves as a tool for young social workers to apply theoretical knowledge in practice and to better understand existing social issues in society. He emphasized that demonstrating the challenges faced by vulnerable groups increases public awareness of these issues.

The event concluded with an interactive social-themed game conducted by Emin Mammadov. During the game, participants had the opportunity to view social issues from different perspectives, develop empathy, and enhance their social thinking skills.
