An educational information session on the topic “Building a culture of intellectual property” took place at Azerbaijan University.
Opening the event, Dean of the Faculty of ICT Asif Pashayev emphasized the relevance of the topic and delivered a presentation titled “Patenting intellectual property and inventions”. The presentation provided a detailed explanation of the concept of intellectual property, its main types, patents, trademarks, copyright, the importance of patenting, key stages of the patenting process, and international patent-related issues.
Following this, Head of the Department of Sciences, PhD in Mathematics Latifa Agamaliyeva, delivered a presentation on “Intellectual property, academic ethics, and plagiarism issues in the age of AI”. The presentation focused on artificial intelligence, cases in which its use is permitted and prohibited, and the key principles emerging in this field. Latifa Agamaliyeva also provided information on AI content detection, anti-plagiarism systems, and the characteristics of AI-generated texts.
After the presentations, Vice Rector for Scientific Affairs, PhD in Mathematics Yusif Gasimov, addressed the students and shared his views on the topic. He noted that the human being must remain at the center of the intellectual property system and that artificial intelligence should be regarded as a tool rather than an author. Yusif Gasimov emphasized the importance of openly discussing the use of artificial intelligence, particularly in scientific and creative work.
The event was organized on the occasion of April 26 – World Intellectual Property Day, with the aim of increasing interest in intellectual property among lecturers, students, young researchers, and scholars, as well as promoting the development of a culture in this field.
At the end of the event, certificates were awarded to students who participated in the “Create your Green World! 2 - Digital Solutions Hackathon” project organized by ASAN Service and the IDEA – International Dialogue for Environmental Action.
