The Department of Political and Social Sciences held a scientific seminar in Lankaran
The Department of Political and Social Sciences at Azerbaijan University continues to organize scientific seminars, conferences, and educational events in accordance with its approved 2026 activity plan. These initiatives are aimed at expanding research activities, promoting in-depth study of the history and rich cultural heritage of the regions, and strengthening scientific cooperation between the academic community and local society. They also contribute significantly to increasing interest in national and cultural values among students and young researchers, shaping their academic outlook, and developing their research skills.
In line with the Department’s activity plan, another scientific seminar was organized in Lankaran. The event brought together faculty members of the Department of Political and Social Sciences and University students. Within the framework of the seminar titled “The place of our historical and cultural monuments in the history of the Homeland (the case of the historical monuments of the Southeastern region)”, the rich historical and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan’s southeastern region became the subject of extensive academic discussion.
The seminar included exchanges of views on the stages of development of the region’s historical monuments, their role in shaping national identity, and current issues related to preserving and passing this heritage on to future generations. Particular attention was given to the preservation of cultural heritage in the context of globalization, as well as its scientific study and international promotion.
The keynote speaker of the seminar was Assoc. Prof. of the Department and Doctor of Historical Sciences Bahman Karimov. In his presentation, Bahman Karimov provided a scholarly analysis of the region’s historical monuments, evaluated them from a source studies perspective, and emphasized the importance of researching regional history.
The event also featured speeches by Head of the Department, Candidate of Political Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Elvin Talyshinski, and faculty member, Candidate of Historical Sciences Sabina Mammadli, who presented their academic perspectives on the preservation of the region’s historical heritage, current challenges, and future prospects. The speakers particularly emphasized the importance of inventorying and digitizing monuments and integrating them into academic circulation.
As part of the seminar, participants also visited a number of historical and cultural monuments located in the city of Lankaran. Discussions were organized on the basis of on-site observations, and this practical approach provided participants with an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real historical environment.
It should be noted that organizing such scientific seminars plays an important role in studying the historical and cultural potential of the country’s regions, disseminating academic knowledge across regions, and preserving national and cultural heritage. The Department plans to continue its activities in this direction and develop new scientific initiatives in the future.
