A scientific-practical seminar dedicated to World Autism Awareness Day was held at Azerbaijan University
The seminar, titled “We are different, but we are one of you”, was organized at Azerbaijan University for second-year students majoring in Correctional Pedagogy. The initiative was led by Aynur Abdullayeva, lecturer at the Department of Social Work Organization, specialist in inclusive education, and correctional pedagogue.
The main objective of the seminar was to draw attention to the challenges faced by families of children with autism, present family experiences in coping with autism, highlight the care and support provided by parents for their children’s development, and convey important information regarding the integration of children with autism into society.
In her speech, Aynur Abdullayeva noted that, by decision of the United Nations, April 2 is annually observed as World Autism Awareness Day in order to study the social issues faced by people with autism and increase public awareness and attention toward them.
During the seminar, participants were provided with information about the characteristics, behavioral traits, and challenges associated with autism syndrome; special methods, tests, and practical approaches used in working with children with autism were also explained.
The event featured thematic video presentations and continued with an interactive discussion session, during which students’ questions were addressed.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Nigar Shahhuseynbayova, Head of the Department of Social Work Organization, delivered remarks emphasizing the relevance of the topic and particularly highlighting the seminar’s contribution to the professional development and training of students.
