World Health Day was marked at Azerbaijan University
On April 7, a training session titled “Science-based integration of assistive technologies into professional training programs in the field of health and social protection” was held at Azerbaijan University, dedicated to World Health Day. The training was attended by students majoring in Social Work.
The session was conducted by Turana Aliyeva, Disability, Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies Specialist at the Azerbaijan office of the World Health Organization (WHO). At the beginning, she provided students with information on the history of World Health Day, noting that April 7 is observed annually in honor of the establishment of the WHO, and since 1950, this day has been dedicated to drawing attention to pressing global health issues and promoting healthy lifestyles. The motto of 2026 was set as “Towards Health Together with Science” (through a “One Health” – unified approach to health), aimed at raising global awareness of key public health challenges.
The main focus of the event was the integration of assistive technologies into professional training programs in the fields of health and social protection. It was emphasized that strong health and social protection systems must be based on science, research, and evidence-based approaches.
Turana Aliyeva informed students about WHO evidence-based resources on assistive technology, rehabilitation, and inclusive health systems strengthening, and presented the Assistive Technology (AT) course available in Azerbaijani on the Training in Assistive Products (TAP) platform.
The session concluded with interactive discussions with students. The importance of rehabilitation services, assistive technologies, and inclusive health systems was highlighted, particularly in the context of demographic and epidemiological changes such as population aging and the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases and injuries.
